Create positive awareness: Veterinary Sterkliniek
We are happy to announce we have another case to present to you. Veterinary Sterkliniek Naarden-Bussum has joined our philosophy and is proud to separate their waste. They are helping the environment and do not forget separating plastic waste rewards!

A good idea
Sterkliniek Naarden-Bussum wants to be more sustainable. Less waste, reducing waste, smaller footprint, pure waste streams, better ways of recycling and the awareness of their own contribution to corporate social responsibility. These sustainability objects suits the professional management of the company.
So we came up with a program to create awareness, to improve to the process of separating waste, and to reduce the use of plastic.

How did we make it happen
After we got in contact with Sterkliniek we invited the stakeholders of the waste process and involved them to define objectives and responsibilities to improve the sustainable footprint of the practice.
A little indicator summary of what we were doing to make it happen:
- Start. 3 February with the inventory of waste locations internally and proposal of waste bins.
- Finalize contracts with Van Loenen (waste collector).
- Presentation employees Sterkliniek: What, why, and how? Their part to play.
- Check proposal waste bins with employees.
- Implementation in March.
- Evaluation in May.

These companies helped
Van Loenen, part of Renewi, the waste collector advised to separate special kinds of plastic and adapted the waste-collecting process.
Van Loenen changed the wastepaper container from 660L to a 1100L with the same frequency of collecting the container, once every 2 weeks.
The residual waste container changed from 1100L to 660L with the same frequency of collecting, once every two weeks.

Plastic waste
A veterinary practice produces tons of waste each year. Think about gloves, different foils, cartons, or any plastic object. Their waste needed to be separated in a plastic waste stream as well as more pure waste streams.
At Sterkliniek the waste stream on location is as followed:
- 3 consulting rooms: 3 waste streams. Paper, plastic, and residual.
- 3 laboratory waste streams NB max height 70 cm.
- Inclusion, 3 waste streams; per waste stream over 15L.
- Preparation: only residual.
- Operation room: Plastic and residual NB space 50 x 70 cm.
- X-ray: paper only.
- Servicedesk: Plastic and residual
- Knapsack holder for plastic will be added to the feeding pen

The process
Presentation for staff:
- To create awareness for the plastic problem and solution
- To involve them
- To learn from them, opportunities and blockers
Staff determined:
- Which bins they preferred in the different rooms
- The number of waste streams
Assessment of the current situation:
- The number and content of bins, inside and outside
- How often the waste container was collected
- The costs of waste collection

The reward
Veterinary Sterkliniek will become more sustainable. They increased their corporate social responsibility. Awareness of footprint: impact in the chain and prevention of plastics. Due to the awareness in the veterinary about recycling and plastic waste, more waste will be separated. Besides the awareness, it has become easier to separate waste and all the changes Sterkliniek made will reduce the costs of their waste significantly.

Create awareness
The staff has completely abandoned/let go of their resistance to separate waste and has become aware of the value of waste, in other words they have become ambassadors of sustainability.
You can contribute to sustainability and save money!
